Poor Bubba

Bubba is one of the retired thruhikers we've met. He's a very jovial and polite older man with a witty comical way about him. He stay with us at Low Gap and was going to try and make it to tray shelter which is an extra 8 miles from blue mountain shelter. During the freezing rain Sara and I passed him. He seemed well just a little slow but still in good spirits. We arrived at blue mountain shelter about 45 minutes before him. When he had finally arrived he wasn't his normal happy self. In fact an ex marine carried his pack up the hill to the shelter for him. It was very apparent that Bubba was struggling with the early signs of hyperthermia. He collapsed into the shelter and for the most part was unable to move his limbs. It was only when Quevadas( the exmarine) gave him a hot tea that he began to recover. Still delirious Bubba thanked Que for the hot coco. We were all very worried for Bubba. One of the Elders on the trail gave him his hat and emergency blanket. It took about an hour but Bubba began to return to normalcy. It was great relief when we saw him walk out of a buffet with a big smile and a full belly!
